気になる言葉
～翻訳の中で出会った言葉～

 

今年も残り1カ月余りとなりました。この時期になってくると、旧NISA口座ではロールオーバーという年末処理を忘れないようにしなければ！と緊張感漂っていましたが、新NISAではこの処理が不要になりました。投資期間の恒久化は、資産運用立国を標榜する上でも非常に重要な改革の一つです。

 

さて、本日の言葉はこのroll over。金融関連の方にはお馴染みの言葉ですが、一般的によく使われる言葉でもないので取り上げることにしました。

 

投資関連の人が真っ先に思い浮かべる意味は「借り換える」ではないでしょうか？

金利の高い債券は満期が来ても借り換えが難しい、という意味です。

また先物市場でroll overといえば、期先物に乗り換える、という意味。先物は期間が到来すると消滅してしまうので、ヘッジのためには限月交代の時にroll overする必要があります。

 

Future roll over is the process of closing an expiring futures contract and opening a new one with a different expiration date. This allows traders to maintain their positions without taking delivery of the underlying asset.

金融用語以外では、「言いなりになる」という意味もあります。

 

That's why most people and organizations just roll over and give up when they're challenged or attacked by the I.R.S.

 

そういうわけで、国税庁に説明を求められたり非難されたりするとたいていの人々や組織はただ言われた通りにするんだ。
